In October 2023, four of us friends planned a trip to Kausani, Ranikhet, and Nainital. I was especially excited because I deeply wished to visit Kainchi Dham. I had heard about Neem Karoli Baba almost ten years ago, watched many videos, and read books about Him. My friends, however, weren’t very interested—one of them even refused quite rudely. I told them they could decide later, but I would definitely go, no matter what.
That friend booked the hotel in Ranikhet, and I booked the stays for Kausani and Nainital through a hotel booking portal.
On our way to Kausani, the driver asked if we wanted to stop at Kainchi Dham since it was on the way. I looked hopefully at the others, and they agreed as long as we didn’t take too much time. I was happy! But just as we neared kainchi Dham, one of my friends started feeling sick and began throwing up. She was quite unwell, and her husband didn’t want to stop. So, we had to skip the visit to Kainchi Dham and move ahead.
We spent some peaceful days in Kausani and then moved to Ranikhet. As soon as we reached the hotel there, I knew it wouldn’t work for us. The friend who had booked it called the hotel, saying she and the others couldn’t handle the steep climb. The person on the phone was very rude and refused to refund even part of the money. She had paid the full amount, not expecting any issue, and now it was a big loss.
We quickly found another place to stay. It was better, but also more expensive. My friend was so stressed, she developed a fever. The other couple was also still feeling unwell. I realized no one would want to step out the next day. So, I booked a car through the hotel for myself to visit Haida Khan Baba’s Ashram and a few other places.
The next morning, as I was getting ready, the friend who had lost the money and wasn’t planning to go out suddenly said she wanted to join me to kainchi dham. We went together to Haida Khan Baba’s temple. He is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva, known for teaching the path of truth, simplicity, and love. The temple was peaceful and beautiful, surrounded by hills and filled with a deep sense of calm.
Our driver was a young man, and the car was brand new with ribbons on the bonnet. As soon as we sat inside, he asked us if we had visited Neem Karoli Baba’s ashram. When we said no, he nodded and mentioned it was Navami that day—a good day for darshan. Even though I knew my friend wasn’t keen, I asked him if he could take us there. He said it was his father’s death anniversary, and he had to reach home before sunset to eat prasad with his mother. Kainchi Dham was 18 km away, and we had only two and a half hours left. I felt sad but thought maybe Baba had other plans.

Just then, as we crossed a bend, the driver suddenly said he’d take us! About 5 km from the Kainchi Dham Ashram, traffic slowed due to road work and one-way movement. Miraculously, our car was the last one allowed to pass before they closed the road.

We got off right in front of the gates. The driver told us to hurry and call him after we finished. I left everything in the car except my wallet. My friend kept her phone.
Inside the neem karoli baba temple, there were no queues. Blessing from Maharaj ji! We went straight in and took darshan. Babaji’s lifelike statue seemed to be smiling in welcome. Then we sat peacefully in front of the Takhat where He used to sit wrapped in a plaid blanket, talking to devotees. We sat quietly for about 20 minutes. On our way out, we ate the delicious chana prashad.

While crossing the bridge on the way outside to Kainchi Dham, my friend took out her phone for a selfie with the ashram in the background. Just then, she got a message from the booking company saying her full refund had been credited! She had tears in her eyes and told me she had prayed silently to Neem Karoli Babaji. It felt like a miracle—there really was no hope of a refund. She even apologized to Neem Karoli Babaji for the rude things she had said earlier.
On our way back to Ranikhet, the road near the ashram was again one-way due to the work, but once again, ours was the last car allowed through. We made it back before sunset, just as the driver had hoped. A miracle!
Later, while returning from Nainital to Bareilly, we saw a long, winding queue outside Kainchi Dham. It made me realize how truly blessed we were to have had such a peaceful and complete darshan.

कौसानी जाते समय, ड्राइवर ने पूछा कि क्या हम कैंची धाम में रुकना चाहते हैं क्योंकि यह रास्ते में था। मैंने दूसरों की ओर आशा भरी नज़रों से देखा, और वे सहमत हो गए, बशर्ते कि हम ज़्यादा समय न लें। मैं खुश थी !! लेकिन जैसे ही हम कैंचीधाम के पास पहुँचे, मेरी एक दोस्त की तबियत खराब होने लगी और उसे उल्टी होने लगी। वह काफी अस्वस्थ थी, और उसका पति रुकना नहीं चाहता था। इसलिए, हमें कैंचीधाम के दर्शन का विचार त्यागना पड़ा।
हमने कौसानी में कुछ शांतिपूर्ण दिन बिताए और फिर रानीखेत चले गए। जैसे ही हम वहाँ होटल पहुँचे, मुझे पता चल गया कि यह हमारे लिए काम नहीं करेगा। जिस दोस्त ने होटल बुक किया था, उसने होटल को फ़ोन करके कहा कि वह और दूसरे लोग खड़ी चढ़ाई को संभाल नहीं पाएँगे। फ़ोन पर मौजूद व्यक्ति बहुत ही असभ्य था और उसने पैसे का एक हिस्सा भी वापस करने से इनकार कर दिया। उसने पूरी राशि चुका दी थी, उसे किसी समस्या की उम्मीद नहीं थी, और अब यह एक बड़ा नुकसान था।
हमने जल्दी से रहने के लिए एक और जगह ढूँढ़ ली। यह बेहतर था, लेकिन ज़्यादा महंगा भी था। मेरी दोस्त बहुत तनाव में थी, उसे बुखार हो गया। दूसरा जोड़ा भी अभी भी अस्वस्थ महसूस कर रहा था। मुझे लगा कि अगले दिन कोई भी बाहर नहीं निकलना चाहेगा। इसलिए, मैंने हैड़ाखान बाबा के आश्रम और कुछ अन्य स्थानों पर जाने के लिए होटल के ज़रिए एक कार बुक की।
अगली सुबह, जब मैं तैयार हो रहा थी, तो जिस दोस्त ने पैसे खो दिए थे और बाहर जाने की योजना नहीं बना रहा थी, उसने अचानक कहा कि वह मेरे साथ आना चाहती है। हम साथ में हैड़ाखान बाबा बाबा के मंदिर गए। माना जाता है कि वे भगवान शिव के अवतार हैं, जिन्हें सत्य, सादगी और प्रेम का मार्ग सिखाने के लिए जाना जाता है। मंदिर शांत और सुंदर था, पहाड़ियों से घिरा हुआ था और शांति की गहरी भावना से भरा हुआ था।
हमारा ड्राइवर एक युवा व्यक्ति था, और कार बिल्कुल नई थी और बोनट पर रिबन लगे हुए थे। जैसे ही हम अंदर बैठे, उसने हमसे पूछा कि क्या हम नीम करोली बाबा के आश्रम गए थे। जब हमने कहा नहीं, तो उसने सिर हिलाया और बताया कि उस दिन नवमी थी – दर्शन के लिए एक अच्छा दिन। हालाँकि मुझे पता था कि मेरी दोस्त उत्सुक नहीं थी – मैंने उससे पूछा कि क्या वह हमें वहाँ ले जा सकता है। उसने कहा कि यह उसके पिता की पुण्यतिथि थी और उसे अपनी माँ के साथ प्रसाद खाने के लिए सूर्यास्त से पहले घर पहुँचना था। कैंची धाम 18 किमी दूर था, और हमारे पास केवल ढाई घंटे बचे थे। मुझे दुख हुआ लेकिन लगा कि शायद बाबा की कुछ और योजनाएँ थीं।
तभी, जैसे ही हम एक मोड़ पार कर रहे थे, ड्राइवर ने अचानक कहा कि वह हमें ले जाएगा! आश्रम से लगभग 5 किमी दूर, सड़क के काम और एकतरफा आवाजाही के कारण यातायात धीमा हो गया। चमत्कारिक रूप से, हमारी कार सड़क बंद होने से पहले आखिरी कार थी जिसे जाने दिया गया।
हम गेट के ठीक सामने उतर गए। ड्राइवर ने हमें जल्दी करने और काम खत्म होने के बाद उसे फोन करने को कहा। मैंने अपना बटुआ छोड़कर बाकी सब कुछ कार में ही छोड़ दिया। मेरी दोस्त ने अपना फोन रख लिया।
मंदिर के अंदर, कोई कतार नहीं थी। महाराज जी का आशीर्वाद! हम सीधे अंदर गए और दर्शन किए। बाबाजी की सजीव प्रतिमा स्वागत में मुस्कुरा रही थी। फिर हम तख्त के सामने शांति से बैठ गए, जहाँ वे कंबल ओढ़े भक्तों से बात करते थे। हम लगभग 20 मिनट तक चुपचाप बैठे रहे। बाहर निकलते समय, हमने स्वादिष्ट चना प्रसाद खाया।
बाहर पुल पार करते समय, मेरी दोस्त ने आश्रम की पृष्ठभूमि में सेल्फी लेने के लिए अपना फोन निकाला। तभी, उसे बुकिंग कंपनी से एक संदेश मिला जिसमें कहा गया था कि उसका पूरा रिफंड क्रेडिट कर दिया गया है! उसकी आँखों में आँसू थे और उसने मुझे बताया कि उसने बाबाजी से मन ही मन प्रार्थना की थी। यह एक चमत्कार जैसा लगा – वास्तव में रिफंड की कोई उम्मीद नहीं थी। उसने बाबाजी से पहले कही गई अपनी अभद्र बातों के लिए माफ़ी भी मांगी।
रानीखेत वापस जाते समय, आश्रम के पास की सड़क काम के कारण फिर से एकतरफा थी, लेकिन एक बार फिर, हमारी गाड़ी ही आखिरी गाड़ी थी जिसे जाने दिया गया। हम सूर्यास्त से पहले वापस आ गए, जैसा कि ड्राइवर ने उम्मीद की थी। एक चमत्कार!
बाद में, नैनीताल से बरेली लौटते समय, हमने कैंची धाम के बाहर एक लंबी, घुमावदार कतार देखी। इससे मुझे एहसास हुआ कि हम वास्तव में कितने धन्य थे कि हमें ऐसा शांतिपूर्ण और पूर्ण दर्शन मिला।
