N, stands for Neelam. How Neem karoli baba came home in Dasara! As part of the Navaratri festival, we keep Dasara gombe or golu , mud dolls arranged on 9 steps depicting various mythological stories and events of life to whom we offer prayers and gratitude.
I have a Sai statue as part of the golu, but not of the other masters’ who I adore and love. One of them being Neem Baba.
So, on the morning of 4th Oct, I mentally spoke to Neem karoli baba, like a child, “Sai’s idol I have, but I don’t have yours. Can you come? Probably you may not be able to. But its ok, I have books on you, the photo in them is enough. And for me, you and Sai are the same……”

We have some 350 houses in our apartment and have a whatsapp group for the ladies. Everytime I keep golu, I put a picture of it on the whatsapp group and invite people to come home and take darshan, but just a handful turn up each year. Either people are busy, or hesitant or want personal invites or aren’t interested….. doesn’t matter. This time too I put a picture of golu on the group on 3rd October (Thursday).
On 4th October morning, at around 10am the admin added a person (Neelam) on the whatsapp group, someone who has moved in newly. At 10:15, another lady in the apartment replied to my previous day’s golu invitation message that she would come over in the evening. Neelam ji immediately responded in the group asking if any events are happening within the apartment for Dasara and that she is not able to view the image. I shared the doll image again and invited her to come home.
A trip that changed life forever.
Neelam ji came home in the evening. Because she was new to the apartment, our first question was where am I from.
The conversation is as follows :N: We moved in 2 months back and living in Indiranagar (in Bangalore) previously, but originally from Uttarakhand, Nainital.
(The minute she mentioned Nainital, only one word struck my mind, Neem Karoli Baba Maharaj)
J: I have been to Nainital a couple of times, and recently visited Kainchi to see Neem Karoli Baba.
(The smile and amazement that came on her face when I mentioned Neem Karoli Baba was brilliant)
N: You know Neem Karoli baba, oh wow, He is known here too, I didn’t know
J: I know him only for 7-8 months, I’ve read a few of his books and Siddhi Ma’s. I admire and adore Maharaj
N: I’m Mauni Ma’s granddaughter. She lived with Maharaj and Siddhi Ma most of the time. Baba used to tell her you talk a lot, so take up maun vrat. And since then she never spoke. She used to write on a slate and communicate only the important things.
(I was wonderstruck! Just that morning, I had a brief mental one-way conversation with Maharaj, and how wonderfully He has answered)
N: We are 7 sisters. I am the 7th daughter. Daadi (Mauni Ma) told my mother to ask Maharaj for a son by writing on the slate. My mother went for the darshan but was shy to ask. Maharaj himself told her “You want a son? Don’t worry, you’ll have two” and gave her apples as prasad. She has 2 brothers now. She regularly visits the samadhi place of Mauni ma, which is in a place called Naukuchiyatal near Nainital and a temple too has been built.
J: I’m feeling so good and blessed that you have come.

N: Yesterday I was walking in front of your house and could see some grand arrangements and lights through the glass door of the balcony. I truly felt like coming to your house and seeing what it is. Something was pulling me to your place from within. And today, by His grace, you are the same house that has invited me. If we truly want something from the heart, He will make it happen.
J: I said 100% true. I’m feeling ecstatic because just today morning I prayed to Him and He has graced the occasion through you.
