Read in the words of Kamla Didi how Neem Karoli Baba left his footprints on the wall
footprints of neem karoli baba on the wall
January 14, 1965
Ever since we have moved to this new house (4, Church Lane) from July 1958 onwards, Poo Maharaj Ji’s visits are frequent.
On his stay, there is an influx of local devotees and visitors from outside. Poojya Maharaj Ji’s order was to give prasad to everyone. The number of men and women in the hill devotees also sometimes used to be more.

Some were given fruits, some were given milk. Many people used to go even while having food. Cooking was done by my mother-in-law (Mrs. Prabha Mookerjee who passed away on July 30, 1975). My aunty mother-in-law used to give full cooperation in other kitchen works.

I used to make arrangements for all the other devotees to get up, sit, lay down and make other arrangements.
In 1965, Poo Maharaj Ji again came to 4 Church Lane in the month of December. At this time he was accompanied by the Proprietor of India Hotel Nainital Shri Tula Ram Shah and his religious wife Smt. Siddhi Devi, his son Shri Ramesh Shah, his wife Kanti, the other two sons of Tularam Ji, Yogesh, Dinesh, and daughter Geeta and two younger grandsons Guddan. And the little one had also come. These people used to stay here all day, get prasad and go away at night.
One day while discussing, Poo Maharaj Ji mentioned “Lauri” and said that he lives in Hanuman Garh. Doesn’t meet anyone for 6 months. If he talks, he does it by writing.
Poojya Baba asked me –
“Mai, have you seen that Englishman?”
“no-no! Let me also have darshan of that British devotee.”
Poojya Maharaj: “Yes he will come, will come on 14th January”
“good dad”
Then I got busy with my daily work as usual. Poojya Maharaj Ji went out of Allahabad for a few days.
On 12th or 13th January 1965, when I suddenly remembered about Poojya Maharaj Ji, I got worried because before that I had not accommodated any British devotee in my house nor had I fed anyone foreign food.
In those days, Professor Sahib used to go out for a walk every night at eight o’clock and after roaming, he used to return after seeing books every day at the bookshop on University Road.
Just one darshan of neem karoli baba :https://babaneemkaroli.in/neem-karoli-baba-resets-destiny/
This habit was made from his student life. In this way, he had done a good study of various subjects. The subject of his teaching was economics.
There is also a stock of beautiful books in the house. I thought that if Laurie comes, she will stay in the guest room outside.
There is a plank in this room and a small closet in which he will keep his clothes etc. and there is also an attached bathroom.
That day 12th January was Saturday. The Professor went out for a walk at exactly eight o’clock. After this, near the tucket in Poojya Maharaj Ji’s room, I got very confused about whether to open the closet or open it tomorrow.
neem karoli baba wrote “Ram Ram” in the book of dada Mukherjee:https://babaneemkaroli.in/when-neem-karoli-baba-wrote-ramram/
Because if I open it now, everything is in disarray, which I have to clean immediately according to my instinct.
It was only in this mess that I felt as if someone was motivating me to open now.
I had to open the closet door. As soon as I opened my eyes, lying on the wall on the left side, I saw that many black-colored steps have been made.
For a moment the body was thrilled, thinking that it was an illusion that was true. Not even a voice came out of my mouth. No one even was around when I looked.
Again, with trembling hands, I opened the door well and then cast a glance on the wall, and again after seeing the footprints, I bowed.
Then standing near the plank, saying “Mashi Maa, Mashi Maa” in a slow voice, called her aunt mother-in-law.
At this time she and my mother-in-law were doing puja. When my low voice reached her ears, she started thinking that the daughter-in-law must have been afraid, that is why she is calling slowly.
She quickly came out of the pooja room and entered Poojya Maharaj Ji’s room when I said to her – “Look at the wall!” She too was surprised to see the footprints and then she also called my mother-in-law (his sister) who was worshiping at this time. She too was stunned to see. Do not speak anything to anyone.
With the permission of my mother-in-law, I went to inform Siddhi didi and Jayanti didi (who were staying in the house of Shri Vijay Choudhary, 14, Church Lane, Allahabad). All the people immediately came and saw the footprints and then everyone sat in the big room which Poojya Maharaj Ji has named as “Kirtan-Bhawan”.
Guddan was very young at that time and used to talk a lot, he too was sitting there with all the family members. Siddhi didi said, “Poojya Maharaj Ji’s games(leela) keep on happening”.
Everyone sat down and looked for the way of the return of the Professor.
After an hour, the Professor returned from the bookstore after walking. Seeing them, Guddan ran and informed and said – “Uncle Ji will see Maharaj Ji’s feet?
Prof. “Yes son!”
Saying this, Guddan took Professor Sahib’s hand and took him to Maharajji’s room.
After that, he opened the cupboard and started showing it.
“Look at Maharajji’s feet!” Professor Sahib also got stunned after seeing the footprints.
After this everyone sat in the big room. Professor Sahib gave prasad to everyone and for some time everyone was engrossed in the discussion of Poojya Maharaj.
After this Siddhi didi and others went to their homes. It is the Guru’s grace that sometimes gives me the opportunity to see that Leela.
Susan and Laurie came after a month. Those people stayed with me for 23 days. Those people used to get up very late in the morning. I used to go to school only after arranging for their coffee, tea, toast, porridge, and boiled vegetables, soup, etc.
In the night, again soup, vegetables, kheer, sweets, Sandesh, pudding, etc. were given after eating.
For them, the Chinese utensils were made according to the English rules and all the forks and spoons were also decorated and after eating, I myself used to wash and wipe them and keep them at night because the maid used to come very late in the morning.
With my understanding, every effort was made that those people should not face any kind of trouble. Laurie used to eat everything and was satisfied.
He didn’t say anything about food, but Susan used to tell Laurie all the time about food that her stomach gets upset due to food. She did not like cumin (spice) but homemade Sandesh, kheer and various sweets would be licked in a jiffy.
Sometimes I was also surprised to see that foreign women who are given the first place in their society “Ladies First” used to eat all those sweets first, whether the husband/man sitting in the company would take anything or not.
This thing does not match with the Indian culture and tradition. Here, only after feeding a man, father, husband, brother, a girl, a woman, a sister can eat anything.
These people came to us in January 1965. One day at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, while having lunch, I told my mother-in-law, aunt-mother-in-law and professor, that I took care of these people as much as possible, but these people remained dissatisfied with it. I regret that even after serving them etc., I did not get peace and my mental distress has increased.
Saying this, tears started pouring down from my eyes and my face turned red. At that time, Poojya Maharaj Ji was sitting there in Agra with a devotee. From there he called Shriram Krishna Srivastava (Advocate, Allenganj, Allahabad) on the same day at around 3.00 pm. Mr. Srivastava was at home as it was a holiday that day, he picked up the phone himself.
The phone was from Poojya Maharaj Ji, “You have to bring the British from Dada’s place to your place today.” On receiving this order, he became silent.
He also wanted to say something but Poojya Maharaj Ji immediately hung up the phone. The order had to be obeyed. In the evening, Mr. Kanhaiya Lal Srivastava, who is his relative, came with a rickshaw to take them away. He took the salmon etc. and made arrangements to stay in the upstairs room in his house.
After that very day, Poojya Maharaj Ji came from Kanpur with Dr. Dixit in the evening. asked, “Where’s Laurie?” After receiving the news of Poojya Maharaj Ji coming here, Lauri came to visit. Poojya Maharaj asked, “Where is Susan?” Laurie said “She is ill” (she is ill) hearing this Poojya Maharaj Ji sent Dr. Dixit to see her.
Poojya Maharaj Ji! “Soup is available every day.”
Laurie! “Sometimes!”
Poojya Maharaj “Milk, sweet, kheer, etc. are available daily”?
Laurie! “Sometimes!”
The people of the house did not like the stay of these people in the house of Shri Ram Krishna Ji. Some say CID, some intelligence. Somebody may say that these people always stay above etc.
Laurie was also getting unstable in his mind. He used to get angry and also annoyed. Would ask Maharaj Ji in front of everyone why did he keep him for so many days and why did he not teach him chanting, austerity, meditation, and yoga! All these things happened in front of Shri Ramesh Shah and other devotees.
Poojya Maharaj Ji! “The saints in India have done penance and spiritual practice for 10,000 years, then they have attained the attainment of chanting, austerity, meditation, and yoga. These people want to learn everything in five-seven months.
“How much money should they pay to go back?”
Mr. Ramesh Shah!
“You can give ten thousand rupees, How does it matter to you anyway.”
Poojya Maharaj Ji! “No, no”, will not give that much, otherwise he will not return to his country, will roam around.
An arrangement of Rs 2,000 was made for those people to return by ship. On the day when Laurie and Susan were to return, Poojya Maharaj Ji, Shri Habba Ji, Shri Ramesh, family, and Siddhi Didi had gone to Chitrakoot with children.
Poojya Maharaj Ji said to Ramesh that “Dada will teach Lauri in such a way that he will cry while leaving.”
We went to take Laurie, Susan to the station. My heart was full while leaving. Many days after returning, a beautiful letter from Laurie arrived.
A few days later, Mr. Kishan Tiwari, Vice Principal, Birla College, Nainital had come here. The crowd of all the devotees sitting in the room of Poojya Maharaj Ji was laughing listening to the melodious voice of Poojya Maharaj Ji. Mr. Kishan Tiwari! “You can do anything, now you have started climbing the wall too.” Poojya Maharaj Ji immediately covered his face with a blanket and turned his face to the other side and started laughing and saying!
“I had come secretly but Mai saw it.”
